Magento is an open-source e-commerce platform that provides online merchants with a flexible and scalable shopping cart system, as well as a range of features for managing their online stores. It is a popular choice for businesses of all sizes, from small startups to large enterprises, due to its robust functionality and customization options.

One of Magento’s primary benefits is its flexibility. It offers a range of features and add-ons that allow users to customize their store’s functionality and design to meet their specific business needs. It also supports multiple languages and currencies, making it an ideal choice for businesses that operate globally.

In addition to its flexibility, Magento offers a range of tools for managing and optimizing online stores. These include powerful analytics and reporting tools, as well as a range of marketing and promotional tools to help merchants attract and retain customers.

Magento also includes a range of security features to protect against fraud and other online threats. These include secure payment processing and data encryption, as well as tools for managing user access and permissions.

Whether you’re a small startup or a large enterprise, Magento is a reliable and scalable choice for building and growing your online presence.

In 2018, Adobe, the leader in software for creative design, acquired Magento, the market-leading eCommerce platform, for $1.68 billion. This partnership allows Adobe to fill a gap in their current product portfolio.

There are three editions of Magento available

  1. Magento Open Source is recommended for small businesses. It has limited functionality and is free to use. This is the version released by Magento in 2008 and continued by Adobe after the acquisition.
  2. Adobe Commerce On-premise (previously Magento Commerce) is the on-premise version with enterprise-level features. It covers most necessary eCommerce features. However, users need to host their own server and CDN (content delivery network).
  3. Adobe Commerce Cloud is a full solution with cloud-based Adobe tools such as Adobe Experience Manager, Analytics Cloud, Marketing Cloud, etc. This provides users with a flexible and scalable eCommerce solution. Your business can be accessed and controlled from anywhere without needing physical space to store your architecture and database.
